DREDD-3D

All of you who love the British dystopian comic book character, San Diego Comic-Con International kicked off Wednesday night with a free screening of Dredd 3D.

Judge Dredd himself, Karl Urban, told The News before departing for San Diego:

Working in this medium, it's not like theater, where you give a performance or tell a joke in a play and you get an instant response, and you can gauge if what you're doing is appreciated or not. Quite often it isn't until you go into this environment that you get an understanding of the appreciation that's out there.

I agree with him, but I must say this film is absolutely brutal with extremely graphic violence throughout the film's runtime. Most of the story takes place in one single City Block, called Peach Trees. I also must say that the 3D comes in particularly useful.

Pete Travis (Vantage Point) is behind the camera, directing from a script by Alex Garland (28 Days Later), the film which co-stars Olivia Thirlby, Lena Headey, Jason Cope, and Domhnall Gleeson.

Dredd will be released in 3D on September 21st in the US.

Well, Lionsgate has released the first Red Band clip from Dredd 3D for those of us not currently in San Diego. Check it out.

Dredd – official synopsis:

Dredd takes place on a fictional Earth created as a result of the Atomic Wars. Survivors of this period are living in Mega-Cities, which protects its citizens from the Cursed Earth, a radioactive desert environment populated by mutants. The main story takes place in Mega-City One, where the police who are now called judges have the power to use police brutality to some extent to fight extreme murders. One man, Judge Dredd (Karl Urban), a senior law enforcement officer, teams up with a cadet called Judge Anderson (Olivia Thirlby) to track down a terrorist organization lead by Ma-Ma (Lena Headey), who is responsible for selling a reality-altering drug called Slo-Mo.
