The question mark in our title, but things are pretty clear – director Werner Herzog
has just announced that his next project will be an adaptation of Vernon God Little
novel, written by DBC Pierre
. At this moment the whole thing sounds quite interesting to me. After all there’s a little description which goes like this: desperate times throw up the most unlikely of heroes
. I can handle that, what about you?
Herzog will direct the whole thing from a script written by Andrew Birkin
, and just for the record Birkin is the man who stands behind stories like Name of the Rose
and The Cement Garden
. Not bad team at all if you ask me!
Vernon God Little
story is set in Texas and follows a teenager caught up in the aftermath of a high-school shooting committed by his best friend.
But, if you want even more details about the story, here’s an official description of Pierre’s novel:
Teenager Vernon Gregory Little’s life has been changed by the Columbine-style slaughter of a group of students at his high school. Soon his hole-in-the-wall town is blanketed under a media siege, and Vernon finds himself blamed for the killing (rather than the real culprit, a friend of Vernon’s). Eulalio Ledesma is his particular nemesis, manipulating things so that Vernon becomes the fulcrum for the bizarre and vengeful impulses of the townspeople of Martirio. After a truly surrealistic set of events, Vernon finds himself heading for a fateful assignation in Mexico with the delectable Taylor Figueros.
I still think this has a potential to become one good black comedy.
That’s why I’ll keep an eye on Herzog’s work, and you – stay tuned for more updates!
