Xavier Gens Will Direct HOUSE OF HORROR, Should We Expect The Expected?

Jeanne Standal November 23, 2011 Add a Comment
Xavier Gens Guess what, House of Horror is still happening, but with a completely new director this time! All of the sudden French helmer Xavier Gens jumps in to replace previously attached Javier Gutierrez. Which is good thing, especially now when we also know that a major studio is ready to get behind the project. Of course this is just a rumor, but it looks huge? If you like horror-comedies maybe this is good enough for you… The good news (as well) is that James Wan (Saw and Insidious director ) is on board to produce this project which is based on Max La Bella script. The story will follow a horrific massacre, so what can I tell you – we expect nothing less than five college students brutally murdered inside a decrepit, abandoned home. See, that's horror nowadays! And no, I'm not trying to connect this plot with American Horror Story. And that Paranormal Activity thing also has nothing to do with this horror-aka-creepy-house-trend. Thanks to Shock Till You Drop, we even have the synopsis part, which sounds interesting indeed, but still beware – Standal's spoilers are coming! Take a look: The Devil made me do it. (Well of course, who else? Just go and blame it on The Devil…) The House of Horror is a horror-thriller that centers around a gruesome crime scene. The film is shot with a blend of found footage, interrogation video, news cameras and classical cinematography. (I like this part.) The film focuses on the aftermath of a horrific massacre; five college students, brutally murdered inside a decrepit, abandoned home. (As long as there's no Dr. Benjamin “Ben” Harmon in this house – I'm in!) We are thrown right into the mix as the lead Detective, Mark Lewis, and the police department's psychologist (o, shit, there we go, a psychologist!), Dr. Elizabeth Klein, question a suspect. The young man at the center is John Ascot, bound by handcuffs in a mobile command station. During the interrogation, John explains everything leading up to the deaths of his friends. We discover that they were amateur ghost-hunters, seeking out paranormal phenomenon (God bless paranormal things!) at the abandoned house believed to be haunted. What started out as a harmless activity (See, the activity!) turned into something truly terrifying and more than they ever could bargain for (Poor kids, sad smiley). John explains to the police that he isn't responsible for his friends' deaths, but rather, it was the house. He tells them he believes the house is a gateway to hell; a place of concentrated evil. We slowly witness an eerie change in John's demeanor through the course of the movie. Things take a disturbing turn when John hints at the notion that he is possessed by the Devil. Detective Lewis and Dr. Klein are forced to unravel the mystery of how John's friends were murdered. All this leads to a stunning (I'm stunned already!) revelation about the man they've been interrogating and a gut-wrenching conclusion. Sad. Makes me wonder what the hell is happening with horror movies?
