Some sites are reporting that Zachary Quinto (“Heroes” and “Star Trek”) has signed on to star in the upcoming biopic about the American composer and pianist George Gershwin.
Gershwin, who passed away suddenly at the age of 38 in 1937 of a brain tumor, composed music for both Broadway and the classical concert hall, as well as popular songs. Many of his songs became jazz standards recorded in numerous variations.
DreamWorks Pictures’ project is one of three that Steven Spielberg is looking to direct, according to sources.
Doug Wright wrote the script.
Marc Platt and singer/pianist Michael Feinstein are producing.
The filming could begin in April 2010.
