CBS Plans New Gunsmoke Movie
The classic western TV series “Gunsmoke,” that ran for 20 seasons, is being rebooted as a feature for CBS Films. James Arness, Milburn Stone and Amanda Blake led the cast of the TV version.
CBS has tapped Gregory Poirier (“National Treasure: Book of Secrets”) to write the script.
The action-adventure will re-imagine Marshal Matt Dillon, the hero of the classic Western, for modern audiences. According to Risky Biz Blog, the movie will still be set in the Old West but will have a more “contemporary look” and modern action.

I would like to see the actor Matt Dillon played the James Arness’ role as Matt Dillon.
guess the talent in hollywood isnt good enough to come up with something NEW so they are going to re-hash Gunsmoke…………ridiculous…..hope it flops
leave gunsmoke alone don’t mess with a classic if it aint broke dont fix it.
Awesome Idea!
James Arness would be proud to see a movie for the big screen based on the old Gunsmoke series.
My boys ages 8 and 12, love the old tv series and can’t wait to see the new movie!
ryan reynolds brad pitt not even harrison ford could be matt…How do I know?Because I played matt in the gunsmoke 50th reunion in dodge city kansas…I even had my picture posted on jims website..janet and jim jr were great!!!dont remake…leave it alone..and If you call me to be matt dont expect any contemporary or certainly not a modern look!!!!

Brad Pitt ain’t no Marshall Dillon. Leave it alone. It’s a classic!
There are certain elements to the original series, specialy the first ten years, that must be maintained. Dillon HAS TO BE A BIG MAN!! His demeanor must remain the same. Liam Niesan might have been a good choice but he may now be too old for the part. In this age, his relationship to Kitty Russell can be “spiced up” some. There was a reason this series ran for 20 years. Your main audience is going to be “baby-boomers”. Don’t let them down!!
