Chris Rock To Remake Akira Kurosawa’s High and Low!?

High and LowMissing remakes!? We neither, but Mike Nichols is set to direct a remake of Akira Kurosawa‘s High and Low for Miramax Films. But ok, we should write about this without prejudice, because, as you will have a chance to see by reading the rest of the report, some interesting names are involved around the whole thing… So, we know that this remake movie is based on the 1963 detective thriller classic from director Akira Kurosawa. Kurosawa’s movie, starring Toshiro Mifune was based on the Ed McBain novel King’s Ransom about a businessman who is ruined when he honorably pays ransom to kidnappers who mistakenly nabbed his driver’s son. Interesting story was about to reincarnate once again, and at the time there was a kind of perfect plan. It was planned to be written by David Mamet and produced by Scott Rudin. Martin Scorsese originally commissioned Mamet to write the screenplay back in 1999 and it took two years for Rudin to pull the rights together. This was the part we said was interesting at the beginning. Ok, well, take a deep breath now, guys! Yesterday, we heard a rumor, that goes like this: Chris Rock revealed his next project to Black Voices! So, what is Rock doing in this report, you might wonder? Well…(you already took that breath!?) he is writing the screenplay remake adaptation of Akira Kurosawa’s 1963 detective thriller High and Low! There you go! And, yes, that means Rock will take over for David Mamet, who wrote the original draft of the film, so it wasn’t said if both Scorsese and Rudin were still a part of the project (that first part of our report was actually us hoping they’re still in!). No offense, Hollywood, but what’s the connection between Rock, well-known from bunch of comedies, and, on the other hand, one Japanese classic? Yes, we know that Chris Rock has a lot of experience when it comes to remakes, but what kind of remakes?! Let’s check some titles like I think I love my Wife, or Dawn to Earth or that upcoming Death At a Funeral that will hit theatres on April 16? We guess that Mike Nichols knows what he’s doing, because there’s definitely no doubt in his projects like Who’s Afraid of Virgina Wolf, The Graduate, The Birdcage… Anyway, we’re interested into this one, so we’ll be right back with new information, and you should stay tuned!
