The Little Mermaid Is Next Fairy Tale Remake
Yet another fairy tale remake. Only, this time, it’s The Little Mermaid turn.
According to the latest reports, Sony studio will be in charge for re-imagining of Hans Christen Andersen’s well known fairy tale. Only this time, we’re talking about Carolyn Turgeon’s novel titled Mermaid: A Twist on the Classic Tale.
So, if you’re little mermaid’s fans, I’m sure you’re going to love this one, so check the rest of this report for more details.
Thanks to Variety, we also learned that Country Strong helmer Shana Feste will adapt the story, while Tobey Maguire and Jenno Topping will produce.
The whole thing will “center on a princess who, in order to save her ravaged kingdom, sets out on a dangerous journey to marry the prince of her rival kingdom, not knowing that a beautiful mermaid has fallen for the same man and has sacrificed everything to be with him.”
As usual, here’s a little description of the novel: “Turgeon refashions Hans Christian Andersen’ss beloved classic, The Little Mermaid, into something altogether darker and more foreboding. When two women from two decidedly different worlds fall for the same prince, what else can ensue but heartache and misery?
Joe Wright to Direct The Little Mermaid
We all like Hans Christian Anderson’s The Little Mermaid, don’t we?
Ok, maybe we don’t, but British filmmaker Joe Wright definitely likes her! That’s exactly why he’s currently attached to direct a live-action adaptation of this classic fairytale.
Wright is a director best known from titles like Pride and Prejudice, Atonement and The Soloist, so we guess this upcoming project could be something interesting to watch…
We guess that this story is already familiar to all of us, but still, let’s repeat that it centers on a young mermaid who gives up her life in the sea to gain the love of a prince. First published in 1837, but has been adapted for the stage and screen numerous times.
