We already shared some great images from
Jimmy P. (Psychotherapy Of A Plains Indian), the latest film from director
Arnaud Desplechin. Now it's time for all of us to check out some clips from the whole thing, and take a much better look at the leading duo – great
Benicio del Toro and
Mathieu Amalric.
As you probably remember, the movie will compete for the Palme d'Or at the upcoming
Cannes Film Festival.
Written by Desplechin and Kent Jones, Jimmy P. will tell us the true story of the encounter and developing friendship between two men who would never normally have met, and who appear to have nothing in common.
In other words, Del Toro's character – Picard, a Plains Indian of the Blackfeet nation who returns from WWII, travels to the famous Winter Hospital in Kansas. There, he meets Amalric's character – Devereux, whose compassion and understanding of Native American culture bonds the pair.
But, in case you've missed the official synopsis for the movie, here's more details:
“At the end of World War II, Jimmy Picard, a Native American Blackfoot who fought in France, is admitted to Topeka Military Hospital in Kansas – an institution specializing in mental illness. Jimmy suffers from numerous symptoms: dizzy spells, temporary blindness, hearing loss… and withdrawal. In the absence of any physiological causes, he is diagnosed as schizophrenic. Nevertheless, the hospital management decides to seek the opinion of Georges Devereux, a French anthropologist, psychoanalyst and specialist in Native American culture.”
Beside Del Toro and Amalric, the rest of Jimmy P. cast includes Elya Baskin, Gina McKee, Larry Pine and Joseph Cross.
