Footloose follows the basic structure of the '84 original, albeit transplanted to the South instead of the Midwest American setting. Ren McCormack, who arrives to stay with family in the small town of Bomont. But he soon runs afoul of the local reverend (Dennis Quaid) who, along with the town government, has pushed through measures to ban public dancing in the aftermath of a tragic accident that killed a carload of high school students.
Still, Ren decides to challenge the ruling and finds solid support from Ariel Moore (Julianne Hough), who just so happens to be the reverend's rebellious, dance-crazy daughter. Along with new friends such as Willard Hewitt (Miles Teller), Ren sets out to change some minds…
The film also stars Andie MacDowell, Patrick John Flueger, Ziah Colon, Ray McKinnon, Josh Warren, Corey Flaspoehler and Miles Teller.
Slated for an October 14 release, Footloose was written by Dean Pitchford and Craig Brewer with Brewer also directing.
