It is adapted from David Mitchell's 2004 novel of the same name and follows six stories ranging from the South Pacific in the 19th Century to California in the 1970s to a post-apocalyptic future, and most of the cast play multiple characters throughout the six stories, swapping race and gender in the process.
Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Jim Broadbent, Hugo Weaving, Jim Sturgess, Doona Bae, Ben Whishaw, James D'Arcy, Xun Zhou, Keith David, David Gyasi, Susan Sarandon and Hugh Grant all star in Cloud Atlas which will be released by Warner Bros. Pictures nationwide on October 26th, 2012.
Here's the synopsis for the film
Cloud Atlas explores how the actions and consequences of individual lives impact one another throughout the past, the present and the future. Action, mystery and romance weave dramatically through the story as one soul is shaped from a killer into a hero and a single act of kindness ripples across centuries to inspire a revolution in the distant future. Each member of the ensemble appears in multiple roles as the stories move through time.
