Disney Eyes Ronan, Wilde and Vikander For CINDERELLA

Nick Martin May 13, 2024 Add a Comment
Ronan-Wilde-Vikander With Cate Blanchett in negotiations to play the evil stepmother in Disney's re-imagining of the classic fairytale Cinderella, Untitled Cinderella Story, the studio has begun narrowing its search for the title character. The three foreign-born actresses that will reportedly soon be testing for the role are already established Irish teen thesp Saoirse Ronan (The Host), Alicia Vikander, the lovely Swedis-born actress from A Royal Affair and Britain's Gabriella Wilde (The Three Musketeers) who has signed on to play the role of Sue Snell in Carrie remake. Chris Weitz (About a Boy) wrote the script and Simon Kinberg (X-Men) will produce Mark Romanek's live-action adaptation. Aline Brosh McKenna wrote the initial draft and Disney set the project up in the wake of its success with Alice in Wonderland in May 2010. The film follows the prince, who set for a politically arranged marriage, until the evil plan is threatened when the prince meets Cinderella, so this is not to be confused with the Cinderella film Universal that is also currently working on. Ronan wrapped a lead role in Wes Anderson's Grand Budapest Hotel and is attached to star in the historical drama, Mary Queen of Scots. Besides Carrie remake, Wilde has the indie film, Squatters, with Richard Dreyfus set to debut in 2013, while Anna Karenina's Vikander will be seen next year in Sergey Bodrov's The Seventh Son, alongside Jeff Bridges and Julianne Moore.
