Tarantino Still Planning A Closing Part Of BASTERDS/DJANGO Trilogy

Nick Martin December 27, 2012 Add a Comment
Django-Basterds Back in October, Total Film magazine spoke to Quentin Tarantino and director dropped an intriguing little nugget surrounding his latest movie, claiming that Django Unchained might be Part 2 of an unofficial trilogy, which began with Inglourious Basterds. He explained:
I don't know, Inglourious Basterds and Django Unchained bespeak a trilogy. As different as they are, there is a companion piece quality. There might very well be a third one. I just don't know what it is yet.
Recently in an interview with The Root's editor in chief, Henry Louis Gates Jr., Tarantino reveals how he'd like to wrap that all up:
There's something about this that would suggest a trilogy. My original idea for Inglourious Basterds way back when was that this [would be] a huge story that included the [smaller] story that you saw in the film, but also followed a bunch of black troops, and they had been f–ked over by the American military and kind of go apes–t. They basically — the way Lt. Aldo Raines and the Basterds are having an ‘Apache resistance' — (the) black troops go on an Apache warpath and kill a bunch of white soldiers and white officers on a military base and are just making a warpath to Switzerland… I was going to do it as a miniseries, and that was going to be one of the big storylines. When I decided to try to turn it into a movie, that was a section I had to take out to help tame my material. I have most of that written. It's ready to go; I just have to write the second half of it… That would be the third of the trilogy. It would be (connected to) Inglourious Basterds, too, because Inglourious Basterds are in it, but it is about the soldiers. It would be called Killer Crow or something like that.
I would like to suggest that none of this is set out in stone as Tarantino has promised a number of spin-offs and side projects over the years from The Vega Brothers to Kill Bill Part 3, but not a single one has materialized. There's always a first time, so now could be that time. Naming the film as Killer Crow — it's expected to be set after the battle of Normandy (pre-Operation Kino), is the first serious detail we've heard about it. Stay tuned. Tarantino
