The BFCA Critics’ Choice Movie Awards 2013

18th Annual Critics Choice Awards Awards season kicked into high gear with the Thursday’s 18th Critics’ Choice Awards with the glamorous red carpet and continuing into the show which included big wins for Jennifer Lawrence, Jessica Chastain, Bradley Cooper, and Ben Affleck. The biggest winner of the night, David O. Russell‘s dramedy Silver Linings Playbook collected a total of four awards: Best Acting Ensemble gong as well as Best Comedy Movie trophies; Lawrence and Cooper won Best Actress and Actor awards for the comedy category. Accepting the award, Cooper said:
You’re looking at a very lucky man. I got to work with such great comedians since I started… and then I got to work in this movie…In my life dramatic situations have had a lot of comedy in them. And Jennifer Lawrence, she is something else.
The 22-year-old actress also nabbed top honor in an Action Movie – The Hunger Games. And Affleck told the Critics’ Choice audience:
I would like to thank the Academy… Just kidding, this is the one that counts!
Affleck-directed Argo took home the night’s most coveted honor: Best Picture, despite the fact that he was left out of both the Best Director and Best Actor categories for Oscar Nominations. Jessica Chastain accepted the Best Actress accolade for her role in Zero Dark Thirty, while Daniel Day-Lewis accepted the Best Actor award for Lincoln with a standing ovation. Founded in 1995, The Broadcast Film Critics Association (BFCA) is the largest film critics organization in the United States and Canada. The awards are bestowed annually to honor the finest in cinematic achievement in each of 17 categories.
