Check Out Dark Comedy FREE PIE Short Film

Free Pie Short Let’s take a look at a spare short film called Free Pie, for a change. Entirely conversation-based and set in a single location, but if you give the film a chance, you’ll find yourself absorbed in its rhythms and revelations. However, I’m not even sure this is a comedy. Directed by Caleb Slain, who has been internationally awarded for his vibrant use of evocative storytelling in both short films and commercials, Free Pie is described as ‘a traumatic comedy about life, death, pie and death with a terrifically witty but dark conversation with several humorous twists and turns.’ Slain’s short documentary It Ain’t Over was presented as part of Palm Spring’s 2012 online program. Currently, Slain is also in post-production on his second cinematic short doc, Juggle & Cut. And both films will hit festivals soon. Watch the viciously dark comedy, Free Pie, for yourself.
A mysterious man arrives at an incredibly stylish home. The pile of opulent but haphazardly arranged stuff near the entryway indicates that the owner is somebody who, for lack of a better phrase, doesn’t give a shit. Sure enough when we meet the owner he’s playing guitar in the middle of the room, plugged into a Marshall stack, covered in tattoos. He’s a rock star, and that information is conveyed instantly, visually…
