We Are What We Are

True horror fans probably already know that we're talking about an American remake of the well known Mexican cannibal film (directed by Jorge Michel Grau), but the good thing is that Mickle managed to take a familiar story in a completely new direction. Head inside to check it out!

“If we tried to top the Mexican version at their own game, it wouldn't really work. I think in ours, we have to like the girls…Not lose them as characters, but actually feel for them.” – that's exactly what director had to say about this project.

We Are What We Are

And we say it definitely looks promising. The movie revolves around two sisters, played by Ambyr Childers and Julia Garner, who are caught up in their family's macabre ancestral tradition.

Here's the official synopsis for the movie:

A seemingly wholesome and benevolent family, the Parkers have always kept to themselves, and for good reason. Behind closed doors, patriarch Frank rules the roost with a rigorous fervor, determined to keep his ancestral customs intact at any cost. As a torrential rainstorm moves into the area, tragedy strikes and his daughters Iris and Rose are forced to assume responsibilities that extend beyond those of a typical family.

We Are What We Are

Also starring Michael Parks, Kelly McGillis, Nick Damici, Wyatt Russell and newcomer Jack Gore, We Are What We Are premiered at this year's Cannes Film Festival in Festival's Directors' Fortnight on May 21st, 2013.

The movie will have it's U.S. theatrical release this Fall through eOne.
