THE ZERO THEOREM Reveals First Poster & New Image (Plus Terry Gilliam’s Statement)

The Zero Theorem

After all those weird images from The Zero Theorem, we finally have the very first poster and another pic with Christoph Waltz, aka an eccentric computer genius who suffers from existential angst. Give him a break, he only wants to determine whether life holds meaning! Anyway, what definitely sounds promising is that no zombies, no caped crusaders or alien spacecraft are involved in this sci-fi drama. That promise comes straight from director Terry Gilliam, head inside to read the rest of his statement…

Terry Gilliam About THE ZERO THEOREM

As we previously reported, Gilliam directs the whole thing from a script written by Pat Rushin, which revolves around the above mentioned genius who works on a mysterious project aimed at discovering the purpose of existence or the lack thereof once and for all.

Everything will change when he experiences the power of love and desire. I mean, he will then be able to understand his very reason for being. Or something like that.. Yep, you better read what Gilliam has to say about the story:

The Zero Theorem is a glimpse of the world I think we are living in now. Rushin's script intrigued me with the many existential ideas he had incorporated into his funny, philosophic, and touching tale. For example: What gives meaning to our lives, brings us happiness? Can we ever be alone in our increasingly connected and constricted world? Is that world under control or simply chaotic?

Good questions, but what about the answers?

We've tried to make a film that is honest, funny, beautiful, and surprising; a simple film about a complex modern man waiting for a call to give meaning to his life; about inescapable relationships and the longing for love, full of quirky characters and sparkling performances; raising questions without offering obvious answers.

Here's my favourite part of the story:

Hopefully, it's unlike any film you have seen recently; no zombies, no caped crusaders or alien spacecraft. Actually, I might have lied about that last item. Having not worked with a budget this small for several decades, I was forced to work fast and instinctively, pressured only by time and money. We relied on the freedom to spin on a dime, to make outrageous creative leaps. The results surprised even me. I'm proud to have been part of The Zero Theorem.

Say what you want, but this definitely (and once again: definitely) sounds fucking promising! I mean, look at that completely crazy cast (nope, it's not all about Waltz!) – we have Tilda Swinton, Ben Whishaw, Mélanie Thierry, David Thewlis and Lucas Hedges all on board.

Can't wait to see the trailer, hope we'll soon have some video to share. After all, the movie will compete for the Golden Lion prize (this month) at the 70th Venice Film Festival, they just have to give us some video!

Right?
