First Clip From Jason Reitman’s LABOR DAY

Labor Day-Brolin-Winslet

The escaped convict drama Labor Day might be Jason Reitman's most deeply felt work yet, despite mixed reviews that it's had at Telluride Film Festival.

Ahead of the exclusive film's release later tonight at the Toronto International Film Festival the first footage has made its way out online and it looks pretty good.

Filmed in Shelburne Falls, Labor Day  is based on the Joyce Maynard's sixth novel of the same name, which tracks the tale of single mom and her son, who unwittingly take in an escaped convict as the police scour the town for him.

Josh Brolin portrays an escaped convict Frank, while Kate Winslet stars as mom Adele who offer him a ride as he appears to be wounded. Newcomer Gattlin Griffith plays her 13-year-old son Henry.

Co-starring James Van Der Beek, Clark Gregg, Tom Lipinski, Dylan Minnette, Brooke Smith, Maika Monroe, Alexie Gilmore and more, the film  is set for limited release in the U.S. on December 25th, before expanding wide on January 31st, 2014.

Writer-director Reitman said of what attracted him to the story:

I'm attracted to make characters who make inexplicable decisions. That excites me. In Labor Day, we are introduced to two people who have no reason to trust each other – and not even in the traditional sense.

Check out the new clip, tense and still riveting, which seems exactly how this movie's plot is going to work.

Synopsis:

Depressed single mom Adele and her son Henry offer a wounded, fearsome man a ride. As police search town for the escaped convict, the mother and son gradually learn his true story as their options become increasingly limited.
