New Trailer For THE MONUMENTS MEN

The Monuments Men

Sony Pictures has released a brand new trailer for George Clooney‘s The Monuments Men, an action-thriller based on a true story and adapted into a screenplay by Clooney and Grant Heslov.

Clooney seems to be hotly-tipped to get another Oscar at the upcoming Academy Awards, not only for his performance in Gravity, but he's also making a late entry into the Oscar race as the star, co-writer, and director of this project.

The second trailer for The Monuments Men shifts gears a little bit and makes it look like a strict, important drama, showing film's underlying message that the mission was about more than protecting art as the Nazis were out to erase any cultural evidence of the peoples they conquered. That simply cannot stand as a collection of specialists will preserve our very culture: Bill Murray as an architect, John Goodman as a sculptor, and Jean Dujardin as a director of design from a fine arts college who join up with a platoon led by Matt Damon and Clooney.

Adapted from the book ‘The Monuments Men: Allied Heroes, Nazi Thieves and the Greatest Treasure Hunt in History' by Robert M. Edsel and Bret Witter, this complex WWII caper is set to be released on December 18th, 2013.

Check out the new trailer for the film, also starring Cate Blanchett, Bill Murray, Bob Balaban, and Hugh Bonneville.

Synopsis:

Based on the true story of the greatest treasure hunt in history, The Monuments Men is an action-thriller focusing on an unlikely World War II platoon, tasked by FDR with going into Germany to rescue artistic masterpieces from Nazi thieves and returning them to their rightful owners. It would be an impossible mission: with the art trapped behind enemy lines, and with the German army under orders to destroy everything as the Reich fell, how could these guys – seven museum directors, curators, and art historians, all more familiar with Michelangelo than the M-1 – possibly hope to succeed? But as the Monuments Men, as they were called, found themselves in a race against time to avoid the destruction of 1000 years of culture, they would risk their lives to protect and defend mankind's greatest achievements.
