Cannes 2010 Winners

Fiona January 31, 2012 Add a Comment
Cannes 2010 This year's Cannes Film Festival is over. No more red carpet glamour, photos of celebrities wearing designer dresses, perfect make-up with perfect hairstyles, but one thing is for sure – movie reports are still actual! So, we are here today to share the Complete list of 2010 Winners. As usual, we'll start with The Palme d'Or that went to Apichatpong Weerasethakul's Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives. We already wrote about this movie, but we are going to remind you that this “Uncle Boonmee” is actually the feature film element of Apichatpong Weerasethakul's Primitive project, which deals with ideas of extinction and the recollection of past lives. It is the first Thai-directed film to receive the fest's top honor, but this director had previously won the jury prize for 2005's Tropical Malady and Un Certain Regard's trophy for 2002's Blissfully Yours. The Grand Prix was awarded to Xavier Beauvois' Of Gods and Men, which is described as “a resonant, fact-based account of French Trappist monks under siege in 1996 Algeria.” Beauvous had previously won the 1995 Cannes jury prize for Don't Forget You're Going to Die. The jury prize was given to Mahamet-Saleh Haroun‘s father-son drama A Screaming Man, which is also the first Chadian entry to compete at Cannes. Juliette Binoche, french actress that graced this year's official Cannes poster, took the actress laurels for her role in Abbas Kiarostami‘s two-hander, Certified Copy while Javier Bardem (for his performance in Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu‘s Biutiful) and Elio Germano (for his work in Daniele Luchetti‘s Our Life), shared the actor award. On the other hand, French actor-helmer Mathieu Amalric won the director kudo for On Tour, and Screenplay honors went to South Korean writer-director Lee Chang-dong for Poetry, one of the competition's better-received selections. As we already mentioned, Un Certain Regard prize went to Hong Sang-soo's Hahaha, while The Camera d'Or jury, headed by Gael Garcia Bernal, presented its award for first feature to Michael Rowe‘s sexy debut, Leap Year, which screened in Directors' Fortnight.
