Cannes 2011 Terrence Malick’s The Tree Of Life – Possible Premiere

Brad Pitt and Jessica Chastain in The Tree Of Life

The Tree Of Life opens on May 27th. I know you already know what we're talking about, and I'm sure you're happy to hear that Terrence Malick‘s project is coming soon. So today we're here to have a little chat about this quite interesting drama that, by the way, has an awesome cast – Brad Pitt, Sean Penn and Jessica Chastain.

Ok, the release date is May 27th, but according to IMDB, people in France will have a chance to see it first, on May 18th, 2011. So, we could talk about a premiere of The Tree Of Life at this year's Cannes Film Festival, which will run from May 11-22 …? Of course, we don't know it yet but still, we hope.

And that's not all, because, thanks to guys from TheFilmStage, we now have even 72 new images from the movie to share with you!

But let's start with The Tree Of Life synopsis (that's been quite a mystery for a while):

“At the end of the 1960's in Texas, Jack O'Brien (Sean Penn), the the eldest of three brothers, just lost his younger brother. And he remembers his childhood. The Tree of Life traces the evolution of an eleven-year-old boy in the Midwest. At first all seems marvelous to the child. He sees as his mother (Joanna Going) does, with the eyes of his soul.

She represents the way of love and mercy, where the father (Brad Pitt) tries to teach his son the world's way, of putting oneself first. Each parent contends for his allegiance, and Jack must reconcile their claims. The picture darkens as he has his first glimpses of sickness, suffering and death. The world, once a thing of glory, becomes a labyrinth.

Framing this story is that of adult Jack, a lost soul in a modern world, seeking to discover amid the changing scenes of time that which does not change: the eternal scheme of which we are a part. When he sees all that has gone into our world's preparation, each thing appears a miracle – precious, incomparable. Jack, with his new understanding, is able to forgive his father and take his first steps on the path of life.”

Let us just mention that there's still a lot of secrecy around the whole thing, with some rumors that the movie features “some surreal and sci-fi elements.”

But one thing is for sure, The Tree Of Life has great cast! Brad Pitt stars as Mr. O'Brien, Sean Penn as Adult Jack, Joanna Going as Jack's Wife, Jackson Hurst as Uncle Roy, Jessica Chastain as Mrs. O'Brien, Fiona Shaw as Grandmother, Crystal Mantecon as Elisa, Tamara Jolaine as Mrs. Stone, Jennifer Sipes as Sixth Woman and Hunter McCracken.

Let us know what you think about this one, and stay tuned!
