Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy To Open The Venice Film Festival

Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy

Ok, these days we're only talking about the upcoming Cannes Film Festival, but today, we're here to report something quite interesting about (also upcoming) the 68th Venice Film Festival, that kicks off this year on August 31 and runs through to September 10, 2011, when the complete group of winners will be announced.

So, guess what, it looks that Tomas Alfredson‘s highly anticipated Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy will have that honor to open it!

That's exactly what the producer and radio personality Doug Urbanski had to share in an interview with RBR, saying:

“We're in post-production. We've been invited to open the Venice Film Festival. We'll be releasing in the U.K. probably in September. Then we'll probably release in America in October or November. All of these things will be decided in the next two weeks but I would think that we have a very serious Oscar contender for next year.”

Ok, we're not surprised. As we mentioned, Alfredson's highly anticipated adaptation of John Le Carre's classic spy thriller of the same name, has an awesome cast on board – Tom Hardy, Gary Oldman, Colin Firth, Benedict Cumberbatch, Ciaran Hinds, Mark Strong, Svetlana Khodchenko, Toby Jones, John Hurt, Stephen Graham and Kathy Burke.

Tom Hardy, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy

Peter Morgan was in charge for the screenplay and here's a little reminder of the whole thing:

“…Set in the aftermath of the cold war, the thriller tells the tale of a spy-hunt within the highest echelons of the British Secret Intelligence Service: “The enduring novel by one of the greatest storytellers follows George Smiley, who is a troubled man of infinite compassion, and also a single-mindedly ruthless adversary as a spy.

The scene which he enters is a Cold War landscape of moles and lamplighters, scalp-hunters and pavement artists, where men are turned, burned or bought for stock. Smiley's mission is to catch a Moscow Centre mole burrowed thirty years deep into the Circus itself.”

We'll keep an eye on any new update, so make sure to stay tuned!
