Amber Midthunder, known for her fierce role in Prey, is now set to lead in a thrilling new action film titled Painter. Starring alongside Reacher‘s Alan Ritchson, Midthunder will take audiences on an intense journey as her character uses her unique skills to rescue her kidnapped father. With a script written by John Wick creator Derek Kolstad, Painter already promises to be high-octane, explosive, and possibly the beginning of a new action franchise.
The film, directed by Garrett Warren, marks the stunt coordinator's first time in the director's seat. Given Warren's impressive resume, which includes work on Logan and Avatar, expectations for the action sequences are already high. According to Drew Simon, the President of Production at Infrared, Painter aims to establish Midthunder as a defining action star, likening her potential role to that of Sarah Connor from the Terminator series. Simon noted, “With Kolstad's high-octane script and Warren's direction, we expect Painter to captivate action fans and kickstart an exciting new franchise.”
Infrared is showcasing Painter at the American Film Market, aiming to attract buyers for the project. The company's first film, Novocaine, which also stars Midthunder alongside Jack Quaid, is set to release in March.
Alan Ritchson's schedule is equally packed, with recent casting announcements for Counting Miracles, a romance adaptation by Nicholas Sparks, and Runner, directed by Expendables 4's Scott Waugh. Additionally, he's involved in War Machine, alongside Dennis Quaid, with production starting in September.
With a strong cast, a seasoned writer, and a talented director, Painter is shaping up to be a must-watch. As Midthunder and Ritchson continue to make waves in their respective roles, fans can look forward to an action-filled cinematic experience with Painter, and perhaps a budding franchise that brings new energy to the genre.
Amber Midthunder's move into leading action roles is exciting, especially after her breakout performance in Prey. Her casting in Painter alongside Alan Ritchson feels fresh, with both actors known for bringing intensity and authenticity to their roles. Kolstad's writing expertise in the action genre, combined with Warren's stunt-driven direction, should deliver thrilling sequences that cater to action lovers. The idea of a female lead comparable to Sarah Connor is intriguing and has the potential to resonate with a wide audience. While it remains to be seen if Painter can launch a franchise, the film's foundation and team make it a promising start.
