Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans Trailer

Bad Lieutenant

Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans more-than-two-minute promo trailer directed by Werner Herzog has hit the web. Abel Ferrera directed and co-wrote the 1992 original, which earned Harvey Keitel an Independent Spirit Award for his performance as a drug-addled, gambling sex addict who investigates the rape of a nun. Actually, “Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans” isn't real remake! Herzog himself calls it “a completely independent autonomous story.” He even claims he's never seen the original. At the 2008 Cannes Film Festival, director Werner Herzog announced a remake of the film with Nicolas Cage starring and the original film's producer, Edward R. Pressman returning. When asked about the remake, Ferrara said,
“These people should die in hell, all three of them. It's so disrespectful. And it's a good thing I'm not there (referring to his delayed arrival in Cannes) If I see them I'll strangle every one of them” “Nick Cage, Werner Herzog … I hope they're in the same streetcar when it blows up.” [Source: LA Times]
The new version is based on a screenplay from William M Finkelstein, a seasoned television writer whose credits include LA Law and NYPD Blue, and gives the conflicted officer a name – Terence McDonough – as he investigates the killing of five Senegalese immigrants. Nicolas Cage is set to play the lead character, a cop who lives on the edge. Val Kilmer will play Cage's police partner, while Xzibit will play a criminal dubbed Big Fade. Herzog's version of “Bad Lieutenant” also stars Eva Mendes, Fairuza Balk, Jennifer Coolidge, Vondie Curtis Hall, Shawn Hatosy, Denzel Whitaker, Shea Wigham, Katie Chonacas and Brad Dourif. hey herzog, isn’t it a coincidence your main character is a coke junkie just like kietel from the original movie. you are so full of shit. this is a complete remake with the backdrop being switched from NYC to New Orleans. I’d say this film is a more up to date remake of the original. the thing is, the original is a classic and your film will always be a second rate, unoriginal remake like most Hollywood films which are made these days.

he might be lying but herzog is a far superior director than ferrara even though i love ferraras work too (driller killer, ms 45 and many other especially the one ones up to 96′) i strongly believe this is going to be EQUALLY good in its own way. herzog has decided to hit the mainstream and even though i loved movies like aguirre and fitzcaraldo i cat say i didnt love rescue dawn.
