Fresh on the heels of the large opening weekend for
Sam Raimi's fantasy flick
Oz the Great and Powerful,
Disney is now tackling a live-action re-imagining of
Beauty and the Beast.
The studio giant is ready to put a new spin on another classic story. Therefore, Trance screenwriter
Joe Ahearne has been tapped to pen the script for the project to be titled
The Beast.
A classic fairy tale from 18th century France has been told time and again on screens both big and small, and recently, 2011s
Beastly offered a modern take on the story, as well as the CW's recently launched ‘Beauty and the Beast' TV series.
Not to mention
Warner Bros. has long been developing a new take with
Guillermo del Toro directing and
Emma Watson in mind to star, which means yet another race between two fairy tale-themed films.
We'll have to see what direction Disney's new version takes, but many would agree that it could be a ‘darker' take given Ahearne's recent credits.
However, Disney is probably going to play it safe and won't go anything beyond a PG-13 rating.
No production schedule has been released, but
The Beast comes to theaters in 2015.
Who would you like to see direct it?
