Zoë Kravitz, known for her acting roles in Big Little Lies and The Batman, steps behind the camera for her directorial debut, Blink Twice, formerly titled Pussy Island. The film, set to release in theaters on August 23, follows cocktail waitress Frida, played by Naomi Ackie, who meets tech billionaire Slater King, portrayed by Kravitz's real-life partner Channing Tatum, at a fundraising gala. Sparks fly, and King invites Frida and her best friend Jess, played by Alia Shawkat, to join him on a dream vacation at his private island.
However, the paradise quickly turns into a nightmare as strange things begin to happen, and Jess mysteriously disappears. Frida must uncover the truth to survive the murder-mystery party orchestrated by King. The ensemble cast includes Christian Slater, Simon Rex, Adria Arjona, Kyle MacLachlan, Haley Joel Osment, and Geena Davis, adding depth and intrigue to the unfolding plot.
Kravitz co-wrote the script with E.T. Feigenbaum, drawing inspiration from her unique perspective on the world. The film was initially titled Pussy Island, holding significance for Kravitz, who shared her thoughts on the subject with The Wall Street Journal. “The title embodies the notion that we've progressed beyond such a time, but the title is the genesis of the narrative. It encapsulates the illusion that we've moved past that period”.
Despite the title change, the film maintains its enigmatic aura, leaving audiences curious about the dark secrets that await them on Pussy Island. Tatum, who plays the sinister Slater King, assures viewers that the movie will be a harrowing experience, delving into profoundly unsettling themes and sparking intriguing conversations.
As the release date approaches, anticipation builds for Blink Twice, a thrilling exploration of power, manipulation, and survival in a seemingly idyllic setting.
