Darren Aronofsky to Direct Machine Man
Darren Aronofsky is set to direct the upcoming adaptation of Machine Man, based on Australian author Max Barry‘s serialized online story.
Barry is publishing the novel one page a day as an online serial at his website from March 2009-December 2009.
The entire story will be published as a novel in Spring 2011 by Vintage Books.
Darren Aronofsky will also write the screenplay with his Black Swan co-writer Mark Heyman, working from Max Barry's unfinished novel.
Machine Man is described as an “amped up pop-thriller” and the story centers on a gadget geek and engineer at a forward thinking tech firm who is tired of going through life average and unnoticed and is also obsessed with his own self improvement.
He decides to replace his weak, fleshy parts with high-end titanium performance upgrades of his own design but then discovers other entities have designs on him for their own motives
Aronofsky will direct Machine Man after X-Men Origins: Wolverine 2.
He has been linked to various films recently: Superman: The Man of Steel, Tales From the Gangster Squad and Preacher.
Aronofsky's Black Swan will hit theaters on December 3, 2010.
