Dolph Lundgren Goes All Roman In ‘The Final Enquiry’

‘The Final Enquiry’

Just picture the scene reader. A dusty vault in the basement of an unnamed film studio. Inside, four glass cases containing four actors suspended in stasis. The four are Stephen Seagal, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Chuck Norris and Dolph Lundgren. A peeling sign on the wall displays the instruction…”Break glass only in the event of emergency or imminent straight to DVD release.” Bless, they’re cotton socks eh? Despite all their faults and the numerous despicable cinematic sewerage they’ve graced over the years, I’m still fascinated in what they all get up to. Obviously big Dolph has been unleashed courtesy of a few careful hammer blows as he’s recently been talking about his latest DVD release and you know, it does actually sound quite interesting. I’ll pass you over to Dolph and let him brief you on what’s going down.  “It was a remake of something I had seen back with Harvey Keitel and David Carradine in the early 90’s. It was an interesting story set a couple of years after the death and crucification of some rabble-rouser named Jesus of Nazareth down in Palestine. The roman emperor who’s dying sends this guy down to investigate and find out if there’s anything to the story of this resurrection. I thought that was an interesting angle. My character being a sort of barbarian sidekick who doesn’t talk much and just observes things ends up befriending this Roman and then dying a kind of Christ-like death himself. I thought that was interesting, too.” Aha! He doesn’t talk much. Maybe that’s for the best. Non the less, an interesting angle methinks though as they say, the proof of the pudding is in the eating. The Italian production was shot back in 2006 mainly in Tunisia and is out this very day on DVD (February 19)
