As the excitement for Denis Villeneuve's Dune films continues, the universe expands further with the upcoming series, ‘Dune: Prophecy,' set to stream on Max in November 2024. This epic sci-fi prequel dives into the origins of the mysterious Bene Gesserit, taking us 10,000 years before the birth of Paul Atreides.

The series is based on the novel “Sisterhood of Dune” by Kevin J. Anderson and Brian Herbert, Frank Herbert's son. Set 83 years after the Battle of Corrin, the series chronicles the early days of the Imperium and the rise of the Bene Gesserit, through the eyes of sisters Valya and Tula Harkonnen. These formidable women combat forces threatening the future of humanity and establish the powerful sect known as the Bene Gesserit.

‘Dune: Prophecy' features a star-studded cast, including Emily Watson, Olivia Williams, Travis Fimmel, Mark Strong, Jade Anouka, Chris Mason, Jodhi May, Josh Heuston, Tabu, Sarah-Sofie Boussnina, and Shalom Brune-Franklin. The talented Diane Ademu-John, known for her work on “The Originals” and “The Haunting of Bly Manor,” is the creator and executive producer. Alison Schapker serves as the showrunner, with additional writing by Jordan Goldberg. Episodes are directed by Anna Foerster, John Cameron, and Richard J. Lewis.

Filming for ‘Dune: Prophecy' began in November 2022 in Budapest and Jordan, wrapping up by December 2023. This ambitious project has been in the works since 2019 and is a spin-off from Villeneuve's Dune movies. The series promises to delve into the political and mystical intricacies of the Dune universe, with the Bene Gesserit's motto, “True power begins with control,” setting the tone for the narrative.

While the series is expected to feature the intense dialogue characteristic of HBO productions, fans are also hoping for some epic battles to complement the storyline. The recently released teaser trailers have already generated significant buzz, showcasing the show's dark, atmospheric visuals and intriguing plot elements.

As we await the premiere of ‘Dune: Prophecy,' it's clear that this series will be a must-watch for fans of the Dune universe and sci-fi enthusiasts alike. With its rich lore, complex characters, and high production values, ‘Dune: Prophecy' is poised to be a compelling addition to the Dune saga. Mark your calendars for November 2024, and prepare to be transported to a time before the legend of Paul Atreides, where the seeds of the future are sown in the sands of Dune.
