The long-awaited
Evil Dead remake just premiered at the Paramount Theatre, one of SXSW's biggest screening venues. Director and co-writer
Fede Alvarez announced that a sequel script was already being written.
He said during a post-screening Q&A session:
We already started writing Evil Dead 2.
Sam Raimi,
Bruce Campbell, and Rob Tapert produced the remake that was reportedly the hottest ticket on opening night and had the crowd hooting for every gory reveal.
But Campbell has left fans disappointed after denying that he'll have a significant role in any sequels:
I wasn't in this for a really good reason, and I probably won't be in the others for a really good reason… We wanted these to be completely separate. I hope one day you can go to a movie theater and watch the first three, and then the second three, and enjoy them all.
Well, this could be a clear sign that Sony has confidence in the remake. However, the film has generated a mixed response from critics who have seen the premiere.
Let's wait till release to know whether it will really meet expectations.
Evil Dead opens in theaters April 5th, 2013. The film which needs a warning label stars
Jane Levy (Suburgatory),
Shiloh Fernandez, Jessica Lucas (Cult),
Lou Taylor Pucci, and
Elizabeth Blackmore as a new quintet of youngsters who unleash evil from the Book of the Dead.
