Sky Showbiz has posted the first image of what appears to be Peter Sarsgaard‘s Hector Hammond in Warner Bros. Pictures’ Green Lantern.
The action superhero film follows Hal Jordan, the alter ego of Green Lantern, who is an ordinary man chosen by a dying alien named Abin Sur to receive a green energy-powered ring used for protecting the planet.
Like most DC villains, Hector Hammond has seen several iterations over the years. In the 2008 Green Lantern: Secret Origin (a re-telling of Hal Jordan’s first days as a Green Lantern), Hammond is a private consultant for Ferris Aircraft and while inspecting Abin Sur’s crashed aircraft, is affected by the meteorite fragment in its reactor. We wouldn’t be surprised to see the filmmakers use this plot device, as it would tie all the origin elements together economically in a more cohesive story.
The film is directed by Martin Campbell (Casino Royale), also stars Ryan Reynolds, Blake Lively, Tim Robbins, Mark Strong, Taika Waititi and Temuera Morrison.
Green Lantern is slated to hit theaters on June 17, 2011.
