The first trailer for Kevin Macdonald‘s doomsday thriller How I Live Now, which stars Saoirse Ronan (Hanna) hits the web. Based on Meg Rosoff's multi award winning novel of the same name, the film starts like any other romantic drama, with a girl (Ronan) falling for a handsome guy (George MacKay).
But their affair is cut short when a nuclear device goes off, it's WWIII, and they're on the run for their lives while trying to get home from the English countryside.
The sort of realistic sci-fi also stars Tom Holland, Anna Chancellor and 11-year-old Harley Bird as Piper.
How I Live Now opens in the UK on October 3rd, 2013, but Magnolia hasn't set a US date yet. Don't be surprised to see it added to the line ups at TIFF or Fantastic Fest.
Check out this first international trailer, which EOne has debuted online.
Here's the official synopsis:
Daisy (Saoirse Ronan), a teenage New Yorker, is sent to England one summer to stay with cousins she has never met before. Immersed in a dreamy pastoral idyll she soon falls madly in love with her cousin Eddie (George Mackay). Their summer is blown apart by the sudden outbreak of a 21st century World War when, along with Eddie's younger siblings Isaac (Tom Holland) and Piper (Harley Bird), they are forced to fend for themselves. Eventually separated, Daisy is forced on a terrifying journey to be reunited with the boy she loves. Eddie is never far from Daisy's mind but as her journey to find him gets more desperate, the idea of what she may or may not find begins to consume and haunt her.
