First Trailer For The Adult Swim’s Animated Adaptation Of BLACK DYNAMITE
In just over two weeks, an animated adaptation of the 2009 film Black Dynamite is coming to Adult Swim. The blaxpoitation spoof about a former CIA agent and Vietnam vet battling the Man (who else) was written and directed by Scott Sanders, and starred Michael Jai White and Byron Minns. The film was initially turned into a ten minute pilot, called “Trouble on Puppet Street,” that premiered online last summer and its success prompted the nighttime Cartoon Network to order the show in series.
The same creative team behind the feature film have returned for Adult Swim's Black Dynamite and now the network has released the first trailer for the series. Joining White and Minns, the cast also includes Tommy Davidson and Kym Whitley as well as newcomers Corey Burton, J. B. Smoove (Leon!) and Clifton Powell. “So grab on to your seats and hang on tight, as I tell you a story about Black Dynamite!”
The series looks great, an old-school feel made with state of the art animation that – like the film – seems to mix a variety of different styles into an interesting pastiche. As for the humor, well, that hasn't strayed too far from the film either.
The first episode of Black Dynamite is called “Jackson Five Across Yo' Eyes” and sounds momentously offensive. After Cream Corn saves the young Michael Jackson's life, the titular hero discovers that he's actually an alien forcing Dynamite to, khm, “step in to slap the black off Mike's face, changing music and Michael forever.”
