Hasbro and Paramount studio make shocking announcement:
G.I. Joe: Retaliation has been delayed until next March while the studio preps the film for post-conversion to 3D!
I am absolutely speechless – the sequel will now release on March 29th, 2013, nine months after its originally scheduled release date. The
Jon M. Chu‘s actioner starring
Dwayne Johnson and
Bruce Willis was originally due to be released at US theaters on June 29th.
President and CEO Hasbro, Inc. Brian Goldner said in an official statement:
It is increasingly evident that 3D resonates with movie-goers globally and together with Paramount, we made the decision to bring fans an even more immersive entertainment experience.
One of the Paramount exec further explains the sudden change of heart:
Jim Cameron did all of Titanic‘s 3D in post – and look how well that movie turned out.
However, Jim Cameron is… Jim Cameron. On the other hand, Paramount previously delayed Shutter Island from October 2009 to February 2010 with positive results.
Early buzz on a sequel to 2009s GI Joe: The Rise of Cobra has been very positive. Therefore, good luck to their marketing departments with unpredictable delay.
