We’ve been hearing last month that Olga Kurylenko (Oblivion), Elodie Yung (G.I. Joe: Retaliation), and Gal Gadot (Fast & Furious 6) were auditioning for the female lead in director Zack Snyder’s upcoming film, Batman vs. Superman.
In breaking news, Warner Bros. announced today that Gadot will be playing one of the female leads in still untitled Batman vs. Superman-themed sequel to Man of Steel and that role is indeed, Wonder Woman.
Snyder said in a statement:
Wonder Woman is arguably one of the most powerful female characters of all time and a fan favorite in the DC Universe. Not only is Gal an amazing actress, but she also has that magical quality that makes her perfect for the role. We look forward to audiences discovering Gal in the first feature film incarnation of this beloved character.
The sources said that several members of the Justice League, including The Flash, could also make an appearance in the 2015 movie, whether that’s a significant role or a cameo.
Batman vs. Superman hits theaters on July 17th, 2015, starring Henry Cavill who’s back as Superman, Ben Affleck who will play Batman along with Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne and Diane Lane.
Gadot previously appeared as Gisele in some of the Fast & Furious movies as well as Knight and Day, a 2010 action comedy film starring Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz.
