With a little help from fellow producer Grant Heslov, The Bourne Ultimatum helmer Paul Greengrass will direct George Clooney in a new crime thriller.
Clooney signed on to both produce and play the lead. The project is in development at Sony Pictures, where Clooney and Heslov’s Smoke House banner still has a first-look deal.
Details of Argo screenwriter Chris Terrio‘s script, an original story set in the world of New York criminal syndicates, are being kept under wraps.
Smokehouse Pictures producers Heslov and Clooney are reteaming with Terrio, who became an in demand writer due to Argo, which has become an Oscar frontrunner.
Terrio got his start co-writing and directing his first feature-length film, Heights (Sony Pictures Classics, 2005). He’s also had three scripts on the Black List including Argo, Baltimore (unsold) and The Ends of the Earth with Jennifer Lawrence attached to topline and has already started writing a new film titled A Murder Foretold for Paramount Pictures. Oh and I almost forgot to mention the English-language remake of the French thriller Tell No One, he is writing for Warner Bros.
Clooney will next be seen in Alfonso Cuaron’s space thriller Gravity and should topline Brad Bird’s alien invasion pic 1952.
Greengrass recently wrapped Tom Hanks starrer Captain Phillips and he continues to develop the Martin Luther King Jr. assassination tale Memphis.
