Movie fans, get ready for a heart-pounding thrill ride as Glen Powell (Top Gun: A remake of the 1987 cult classic The Running Man, starring Maverick) is set to feature. Edgar Wright (Baby Driver) takes the reins for this new adaptation, focused to be more of a dark, dystopian world the Stephen King's 1982 novel envisioned. But the film, which has a November 21, 2025, Thanksgiving Day hotspot release date, is already primed to be one of the most anticipated of 2025.
The Running Man is a science fiction film that takes place in a near future's killing ground called Running Man, where players run from professional killers, in a show that many people watch. If you think that sounds familiar, you may remember the 1987 version, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. That film, while a cult favourite, is expected to be much grittier and more faithful to King's novel than Wright's version.
But Powell's casting is a new one that will likely add more depth to Richards' character than was Schwarzenegger's. The Running Man lends itself so well to Wright's fast paced action style and his satirical edge that the combination of the two may be enough to make the remake of The Running Man stand out in a crowded field of remakes.
The movie's release date is in a competitive window, opening against Wicked: A major Warner Bros. film and Part Two. However, with Wright barking orders and Powell at the front, The Running Man could actually race past the others.
Is that something you're okay with, about Glen Powell stepping into such an iconic role? Personally, do you think this remake will be able to live up to the original, and King's novel? Let us know your thoughts!
