Here's a first look at Gareth Edwards‘ upcoming reboot Godzilla that stomped upon the buzzing crowd into Hall H at Comic Con two summers ago. That same footage has hit the web in full-on HD.
Sadly, this isn't the teaser trailer re-screened at this year's Comic Con, but it's still a great little teaser that gives you some fine glimpses of Toho's greatest creation and this is the first time you're seeing it in a ‘non-bootlegged' version.
The May 16th, 2014 release stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson, who might just play Quicksilver in the Avengers sequel, and Elizabeth Olsen who is definitely playing Scarlet Witch in The Avengers: Age of Ultron, along with Ken Watanabe, Juliette Binoche, David Strathairn, Bryan Cranston and Sally Hawkins, respectively.
Besides, here's the full quote you hear playing over the footage from Robert Oppenheimer, the leader the Manhattan Project and one of the inventors of the atomic bomb:
We knew the world would not be the same. Few people laughed, few people cried, most people were silent. I remembered the line from the Hindu scripture, the Bhagavad-Gita. Vishnu is trying to persuade the Prince that he should do his duty and to impress him takes on his multi-armed form and says, “Now I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds.” I suppose we all thought that, one way or another.
Remember, the nuclear attacks on Hiroshima and Nagasaki were the clear inspiration for the original Japanese Gojira movie. It's unclear whether any of that subtext will be part of the new flick.
Meanwhile, enjoy the fabulous first teaser.
An epic rebirth to Toho's iconic Godzilla, this spectacular adventure, from Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures, pits the world's most famous monster against malevolent creatures who, bolstered by humanity's scientific arrogance, threaten our very existence.
