GRUDGE MATCH Adds Jon Bernthal As De Niro’s Son!

Jeanne Standal December 14, 2012 Add a Comment
Jon Bernthal Grudge Match is the movie where we'll finally get our chance to watch Sylvester Stallone and Robert De Niro together in a boxing ring. And, I guess we're all excited about the whole thing. If anyone asks – I'm a huge Rocky fan, so it's pretty clear that I'm already on Stallone's side. But we're not here to talk about my obsession with the Italian Stallion, because we have a little casting update to share with you. The Walking Dead star, Jon Bernthal has just joined the above mentioned cast, and believe it or not – he comes on board to play De Niro's son. So, according to the latest reports, Bernthal will play De Niro's son, aka the guy who is conflicted about training the estranged father he has resented for years. As you already know, the movie will follow De Niro and Stallone as two retired fighters who step into the ring one last time to settle an old score. It's almost like that scene from Rocky 3 when Apollo says: You know, Stallion, it's too bad we gotta get old… Ding – Ding… Or, if you prefer the synopsis part that we have at this moment:
The story revolves around retired boxers Billy “The Kid” McGuigan and Henry “Razor” Sharp, lifelong bitter rivals who are coaxed out of retirement and into the ring for one final grudge match – 50 years after their last title fight.
Anyway, I almost forgot to mention that Peter Segal will direct Grudge Match from a script written by Doug Ellin, Tim Kelleher and Bill Gerber, and the rest of the cast also includes Kevin Hart, Kim Basinger and Alan Arkin. We'll keep an eye on the project, make sure you stay tuned for more!
