A new international poster and restricted trailer for “The Happening” has popped up online. The upcoming thriller is the first R-rated feature film from director M. Night Shyamalan. His new film, centering around an apocalyptic crisis, stars Mark Wahlberg, Zooey Deschanel, John Leguizamo, Betty Buckley, Spencer Breslin and Ashlyn Sanchez. Shyamalan led the project, based on a screenplay that he wrote for 20th Century Fox.
M.Night hasn’t had the best of his former box office glory (“The Sixth Sense” and “Signs“) with The Village’s okay results and The Lady in the Water’s dismal results but this latest thriller, being the first to venture into R-rated territory, is hoping to regain some of his box office powers. It should be noted that it’s going up against The Incredible Hulk though. Can his film take on the green superhero and still be successful?
While the plot details are still mostly unknown, the story is described as a paranoid thriller about a family on the run from a natural crisis that presents a large-scale threat to humanity.
The Happening will hit theaters June 13, 2008.
