In RoboCop, the year is 2029 and multinational conglomerate OmniCorp is at the centre of robot technology. Their drones are winning American wars around the globe and now they want to bring this technology to the home front. Alex Murphy is a loving husband, father, and good cop doing his best to stem the tide of crime and corruption in Detroit. After he is critically injured in the line of duty, OmniCorp utilizes their remarkable science of robotics to save Alex's life. He returns to the streets of his beloved city with amazing new abilities but with issues a regular man has never had to face before. José Padilha (Elite Squad) directs this reimagining of the tale of part man, part machine, all cop.
Jackie Earle Haley Joins ROBOCOP
Jackie Earle Haley, the actor best known for his roles in Little Children and playing Freddie Kruger in the rebooted Nightmare on Elm Street, is set to play Maddox, the military officer who dispenses training to Alex Murphy-post injury.
Tropic Thunder star Jay Baruchel is reportedly circling another key role in the Jose Padilha‘s new remake, but the details are still unclear.
This newest iteration of the RoboCop series will feature a cast that already includes Joel Kinnaman as the titular cybernetic detective, as well as Gary Oldman, Abbie Cornish, Samuel L. Jackson and Hugh Laurie in supporting roles.
The film written by Josh Zetumer is supposed to start shooting very soon in Toronto. RoboCop has a tentative release date of August 9th, 2013.
Haley was most recently seen in Tim Burton's cinematic adaptation of the classic TV series Dark Shadows and next up is the Steven Spielberg-directed Lincoln.
Baruchel is currently filming The End of the World in New Orleans, the feature inspired by Seth Rogen and Baruchel's mock trailer for a movie that didn't exist, Jay and Seth vs. the Apocalypse.
