According to
Variety,
Samuel L Jackson is in talks to star alongside
Angela Bassett and
Jennifer Hudson for the Fox Searchlight movie
Black Nativity.
Film version of the Broadway musical ‘Black Nativity,' penned and directed by Kasi Lemmons has been in the works since 2009.
Jackson and Bassett recently co-starred together in the Broadway production ‘The Mountaintop,' and now Jackson will play the grandfather, Reverend Clarence Cobbs, with Bassett as his wife Aretha;
Jennifer Hudson (Dreamgirls) is also in talks to play their estranged daughter.
The adaptation of the most popular and beloved stage work of Langston Hughes, Black Nativity centers on a young black teenager who is sent by his mother (Hudson) to spend Christmas in Harlem with the grandparents he's never met; a sermon delivered by his grandfather, the Reverend Clarence Cobbs (Jackson), serves as the catalyst for a stylized retelling of the classic Nativity story.
The Pulp Fiction and Django Unchained star, Jackson is also expected to play several different parts in the film's Nativity sequences.
