Director Roland Emmerich is looking to lock the Django Unchained star Jamie Foxx to play the President of the United States alongside Channing Tatum in Sony’s action drama White House Down.
Channing Tatum is set to star as a Secret Service agent who leaps into action to defend the president when a group of parahijackers take over the White House.
The project, described as ‘Die Hard in the White House,’ comes with a spec script by Zodiac and The Amazing Spider-Man screenwriter James Vanderbilt, which the studio acquired back in March for $3 million.
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue will be taken over by a paramilitary group for screening purposes only later this year for a 2013 release.
Olympus Has Fallen, which is also described as ‘Die Hard in the White House’ will be the first of its kind. Gerard Butler is attached to star in this rival White House-set actioner.
Foxx has proved he has both dramatic weight and comedic talents, so he could use a big-budget blockbuster bump.
