Joaquin Phoenix Won’t Star in Eastwood’s Hoover
So what's happening with that Clint Eastwood‘s biopic Hoover?
We have no idea, but we did have several reports about the whole thing, and the latest one had Joaquin Phoenix attached to play Leonardo DiCaprio's lover on a big screen.
But, Eastwood was surprised, when asked about recent reports Phoenix was being considered for the role, answered: “No. I don't know where that came from…didn't he become a rapper?” Sorry, but…what?
Let us remind you once again. Milk writer, Dustin Lance Black scripted biopic of the cross-dressing former head of the F.B.I., J.Edgar Hoover, the movie should film before the end of the year at Warner Bros, and it will follow:
“Tolson's unqualified, and is thought to be a homosexual, but Hoover offers him a job anyway. There's an instant attraction between the two men, and Toulson becomes Hoover's right hand man throughout much of his career. Due to Hoover's deeply closeted nature, however, the relationship is never consummated.
When Toulson makes a move on his boss, the two even come to blows. It's clearly the most important relationship in the script, and the emotional hinge of the piece. Hoover's sexuality is the driving force of the film, and you couldn't miss it, but its treatment is quite subtle.”
In an interview with Reuters, Oscar-winning director Eastwood said that DiCaprio definitely wants the role of Hoover.
“It's a great role for him,” Eastwood said, adding that the film's makers were “in the process” of signing contracts with DiCaprio. He also added that the project would focus on many aspects of the man's complicated life, and explained:
“He was a very complex person. The homosexual aspect is just one of many. I would say that's the least of his problems. But he was also very clever, whether rightfully or wrongfully, he was very clever about keeping himself in a certain position in life, so it is an interesting study”.
That actually means – no Joaquin Phoenix, and no gay-romance on a big screen.
But it definitely means that Tolson's role is still open. So, let's wait and see…
