Johnny Depp To Produce Modern Day DON QUIXOTE Film For Disney
Johnny Depp spent years working with Terry Gilliam to try to get the director's dream project The Man Who Killed Don Quixote up and filming, and anyone who has seen Lost in La Mancha (2002), a documentary film narrated by Jeff Bridges, knows how doomed project turned out.
The director has spent more than a decade trying to get the picture into production, but after a series of onset disasters, the film was left unshot. Gilliam's project may have been dealt a potentially fatal blow, and Deadline now reports that Disney has bought a pitch for an untitled modern re-imagining of Don Quixote to be produced by Gilliam's onetime star Depp through his Infinitum Nihil banner.
The untitled Quixote pitch is a ‘modern re-imagining' being written by Hot Tub Time Machine director Steve Pink and Jeff Morris, and the presumption is that Depp will star.
Seeing Depp does his own Quixote story it just seems rude to me, but life is what it is, and no one ever said that it would be fair.
As for Pink, he has just finished directing a film called Sexual Perversity In Chicago, an adaptation of the David Mamet play, while Depp just wrapped up production on The Lone Ranger, and maybe he'll end up starring in this new film as well.
