Kristen Stewart Or Carey Mulligan In The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo?

Fiona December 8, 2011 13 comments

Carey Mulligan and Kristen Stewart

We already wrote about Hollywood version of Swedish movie The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo that will be directed by David Fincher. And we also mentioned that it's going to be interesting to see which actress will have an honour to play the lead role. Looks like that big-question-day has come! So, Kristen Stewart or Carey Mulligan, guys? We already know that the two of them competed for the Orange Rising Star Award at this years BAFTA and now, funny thing happens – they are rumored to be in a battle for the lead role in this film based on the Stieg Larsson trilogy! What are we suppose to write about now? Let's start with some official details. Kristen won the Rising Star award, Carey won the Best Actress in a Leading Role. We remember Mulligan from movies like Pride and Prejudice, Public Enemies, but she's definitely in our fresh memory from Education, while on the other hand we remember Stewart from movies like Twilight, New Moon, and her first major role in Panic Room. Oh, wait, is that the same Panic Room that was directed by David Fincher?! Yeah, yeah, that's it! Does that mean Stewart's closer to this role? Well, maybe. But let's face some other facts first. We all heard that this role is described as “edgy, sexy and demanding”. No hard feelings guys, but is it just our imagination, or Mulligan looks kind of… softy for this kind of role? If you've read the books then you know it's a dark and intense character, so whoever gets it needs to be at the top of their game, and Stewart definitely looks like girl who can handle this job. Ok, you could wonder if she has enough depth for the role, but c'mon – when you know that Lisbeth Salander (Noomi Rapace) is covered in tattoos, constantly moody, and hard worker, who do you imagine first? Smiley – lady Mulligan, or ice – lady Stewart (well, it's hard to find five photos of her where she laughs)? According to a studio executive insider, “It's an edgy, sexy, demanding role which would have been perfect for Angelina Jolie – if she was only ten years younger…The very best twentysomething actresses around today are in the frame – and that's a very short list.” We're definitely interested in this project, and we can't wait to see who will be the Girl with the dragon tattoo. Maybe we are completely wrong about our “feeling”, so let the best one win, and you guys – stay tuned!

None of those two actresses could play Lisbeth Salander. They only one who can is Noomi Rapace, would did an amazing job in the original Swedish movies. I don’t get why they need to make an American version! Can’t Americans read subtitles or are they too lazy to do it? Maybe a combination of both? A Hollywood version could never ever match the Swedish. Not even close

Noomi Rapace is the best… She is perfect for the role… She learnt to drive a motorcycle, Miss Stewart has even not been able to do the same for New Moon ! Can you imagine the terrific sex scene with the tutor with Miss Stewart ! No ! It is not possible…I repeat, Noomi is the best ! She sticks perfectly to the character…

Neither of these girls. The only actress who would come close to Rapace in this roleis Ellen Page.

She has the right look and has played two or three roles similar to Salander very well. Hard Candy (2005), Mouth to Mouth (2005) and The Tracey Fragments (2007).

Miss Kristen Stewart can handle the role of lisbeth salander. She was able to nail the joan jett persona so she can surely nail this character as well. She also was good in the cakeeater and played the character with the neurological disorder perfectly.
She already appears edgy, sexy and demanding.

I agree Noomi Rapace was perfect for the role and I’m sure her English is fluent. She portrayed Salander how I had her pictured in my mind. Stewart is a wooden actress and neither her of Mulligan are edgy enough.

Please not Kristen. She ruins every movie she’s in.
Other than that, I don’t care who.

While I do agree that Kristen comes in mind before Carey, Kristen has yet to prove herself able to carry a film like this, Yes, I saw The Runaways and she did do a good job, but Carey’s performance in An Education was 10x better.

I do agree that Ellen Page should get the role, Hard Candy is one of my favorite films of all time, she did an amazing job, and she was robbed of at least an Oscar-nomination.

Other then that I see maybe Keria Knightley in the role. or Emily Blunt if she died her hair.

    Rachel Mcadams!!!
She has that sharp yet delicate features, wide mouth, small nose.
vulnerable yet strong. although she’s more known for more feminine roles, I bet she can pull of the character without over acting.

I just finished the trilogy in books and films. And couldn’t stop thinking who’d be perfect as Salander, then Rachel Mcadams seemed perfect.

Angelina Joli is too strikingly beautiful. and too strong.

Kristen ,She fits all the bill, but she’s not dangerous enough, she’s not intense enough. She exudes the mysterious, sexy, edgy vibe, mayby even the attitude as well. But she lacks the intense focus, rage, and… alertness of Salander?
To me, Khristen always looks half awake……

I only hope that the american version doesn’t portray Salander as a typical sexy kitten with bad attitude. God, I’d hate that so much.

@ Caroline, I completely agree. As an American I thoroughly enjoyed TGWTDT and cannot wait to see TGWPWF but to make an American remake would not only be a waste of money but a waste of time. And furthermore, I do not think an American actress can pull of Lisbeth Salander…Noomi Rapace is going to be very hard to beat.
