If you're a fan of surreal, mind-bending cinema, Mr. K should be on your radar. Directed by Tallulah Hazekamp Schwab (Confetti Harvest), this Kafkaesque thriller recently premiered at the 2024 Toronto Film Festival and is set to hit select theaters in January 2025. The newly released trailer gives us a tantalizing glimpse of the bizarre, claustrophobic nightmare waiting for audiences.

The plot revolves around Mr. K, a traveling magician (played by Crispin Glover in one of his most captivating performances yet) who checks into a once-grand hotel. What begins as an ordinary night quickly spirals into chaos when he discovers he cannot leave. The hotel's strange inhabitants — from a troupe of intimidating musicians to a mysterious elderly guest (portrayed by Fionnula Flanagan) — only deepen the mystery, pulling him further into a maze of confusion and frustration.

Schwab's direction brings a unique visual style to Mr. K, drawing comparisons to the surrealist worlds of Jean-Pierre Jeunet and David Lynch. The trailer hints at the disorienting, darkly comic atmosphere that will envelop viewers. The film's meticulous production design promises to be another highlight, immersing the audience in an eerie, dreamlike setting where nothing is quite as it seems.

As the January 2025 release date approaches, Mr. K is poised to become a festival favorite, already generating buzz after its Toronto debut. Whether you're a fan of Kafka, Glover, or just love a good cinematic puzzle, this is one film you won't want to miss.

So, will you dare to check into Mr. K's surreal hotel? Get ready to be intrigued — and possibly unsettled.
