After the runaway success of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, Netflix and CD Projekt Red are gearing up to return fans to the neon-lit, dystopian sprawl of Night City with a brand-new anime. Announced during Netflix's Geeked Week, this intriguing new project was revealed through a cryptic teaser, and although details remain sparse, the anticipation is already electric.
The teaser video that aired during Geeked Week was short but effective in grabbing the attention of Cyberpunk fans. The Netflix logo appeared on the screen before being “hijacked” and turning yellow, a color closely associated with the Cyberpunk universe. Then, without offering any concrete information, it invited viewers to return to Night City, flashing the Cyberpunk logo.
So, what do we actually know? Unfortunately, not much. Netflix hasn't yet confirmed any specific plot details, nor have they revealed which studio will be animating this new series. However, it's clear that the project is in the hands of Netflix Animation, an in-house studio known for partnering with world-class animation teams.
This new series will have big shoes to fill after Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, which was animated by the renowned Studio Trigger (Kill la Kill, Gurren Lagann) and produced in collaboration with CD Projekt Red. Edgerunners earned critical acclaim for its gripping storyline, visceral action, and vivid portrayal of a futuristic society on the edge. With a 10-episode run, the anime told the standalone story of David, a street kid navigating the brutal world of Night City, and his journey was as heartbreaking as it was action-packed.
As for this new anime, speculation runs wild. Will it expand on Edgerunners' success, or chart a fresh course in Night City's vast underworld? Only time will tell. Stay tuned for more details as they emerge.
Looks like Netflix is about to make our future even more dystopian—now we can binge-watch our way to the apocalypse!
