MANDELA: LONG WALK TO FREEDOM New Trailer

MANDELA: LONG WALK TO FREEDOM The Weinstein Company has released a new trailer for director Justin Chadwick’s biopic Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, starring Idris Elba as the man who fought with his life to give his people freedom, which has a new song from U2. U2 frontman Bono sings as we see images from Mandela:
All the beauty that’s been lost before wants to find us again.
Producer Harvey Weinstein who has had a superb relation with U2 for Martin Scorsese’s Gangs of New York, said in a press release:
I think they did a brilliant job honoring the man and the leader they have known for over 20 years.
Bono and company have long been supporters and friends of the South African leader so it’s not surprising that the first new U2 song in 3 years, ‘Ordinary Love’, premieres in the new Mandela trailer. This latest preview showcases Elba’s powerful performance and it also does a nice job of depicting the turbulence with which Mandela was surrounded. Biopic is already sparking Oscar talk, but reviews have been mixed so far with many noting that it simply tries to cover too much ground. Hopefully it’ll do better than the last Mandela biopic, Winnie. Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom opens in limited release on November 29th, 2013 and also stars Naomie Harris, Terry Pheto, Robert Hobbs, Grant Swanby, Mark Elderkin, Garth Breytenbach, and Theo Landey. Have a look below. Synopsis:
MANDELA: LONG WALK TO FREEDOM celebrates Nelson Mandela’s extraordinary journey from his childhood in a rural village through to his election as President of South Africa. It explores the Mandela unknown to most of the world – the lover of fancy cars, a ladies’ man, the boxing enthusiast and playboy, the skilful lawyer and freedom fighter. The film is an intimate portrait of the making of a modern icon.
