Nicole Kidman, the acclaimed Australian actress, has made history by becoming the first person from her home country to receive the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Film Institute (AFI).
The glamorous gala in Los Angeles on Saturday saw Kidman honored for her remarkable contributions to the film industry. Her esteemed co-stars, including Meryl Streep, Reese Witherspoon, Naomi Watts, and Morgan Freeman, were in attendance to pay tribute to the Oscar-winning actress.
In her heartfelt acceptance speech, Kidman expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to collaborate with visionary directors and storytellers, who have allowed her to explore unconventional characters and be free. She acknowledged the privilege of making films and television, and the platform it has provided her in the world.
Joining an esteemed roster of 10 other actresses, Kidman became the third non-American-born actress to receive the AFI Lifetime Achievement Award, following Julie Andrews and the British-born Elizabeth Taylor.
The televised event, initially scheduled for June 2023, was postponed due to Hollywood strikes and will now air on TNT on June 17.
