Pinocchio Prequel for Shawn Levy
The original Disney animated Pinocchio movie was released in 1940 and is based on Carlo Collodi's 1883 Italian novel The Adventures of Pinocchio. Than, Luigi Comencini's TV version came out in the early 70s. The most recent Pinocchio adaptation is released in 2002 with Roberto Benigni both starring and directing. The movie was Italian; therefore, not a lot of people saw it.
And Warner Bros. was last year looking to bring Pinocchio to life in a live-action feature inspired by Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland. Finally, 20th Century Fox has acquired the spec script written by Mike Vukadinovich titled The Three Misfortunes of Geppetto for Shawn Levy's 21 Laps. Shawn Levy is as well attached to direct.
The style of the new Pinnochio prequel is reportedly in the vein of The Princess Bride or Big Fish, both of which are very enjoyable movies. The Three Misfortunes of Geppetto script tells the story of Geppetto's life prior to his creation of the puppet-turned-boy Pinocchio?! And Geppetto endures a life of misfortune, war and adventure, all to be with Julia Moon, his true love. Very interesting…
Levy has been a pretty busy bunch, as his latest directorial effort the robot-boxing drama Real Steel was successful at the box office. He had been working for the James Cameron-produced Fantastic Voyage remake as his next directorial project, but he's also eyeing a retelling of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein. Furthermore, he's producing the R-rated comedy Neighborhood Watch. It's pretty much for one person so the list has to be taken somewhat with a grain of salt.
Well, watch Pinocchio 70th Anniversary Platinum Edition and ‘now, remember, Pinocchio: be a good boy.'
